“Troy Kendrick is recognized as the winningest girls soccer coach in Maine high school history. Troy coached the Richmond girls soccer team for 34 seasons, retiring from the role in 2024. Over his career, he amassed 414 wins, securing 11 state titles and 17 regional championships. His teams were also recognized for their sportsmanship, winning the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Gold Award. Troy received numerous honors throughout his distinguished career. He was named Maine Coach of the Year in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2024 by the United Soccer Coaches. He was named the NFHS Section Coach of the Year for Girls’ Soccer for the 2019-2020 season, and a United Soccer Coaches Regional Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2024. He received the Maine Soccer Coaches Western Maine Coach of the Year in 1993, and the Maine Soccer Coaches Region 1 Small School Coach of the Year in 2007. He also received the Maine Soccer Coaches Service Award in 2024. In addition to coaching, Kendrick is still a fourth and fifth grade teacher in the Richmond school system. Finally, he has served as a Vice President for the Maine Soccer Coaches representing Western/Southern Maine Girls.”
Bio

Troy Kendrick was a highly successful and influential soccer coach at Richmond High School. Over more than 30 years, he established himself as one of the most decorated high school girls’ soccer coaches in the State’s history. He achieved a major milestone in 2022 when he secured his 400th career victory, becoming the first coach in Maine high school girls’ soccer history to reach that mark. Under his leadership, the Richmond girls were a perennial powerhouse, competing in and winning multiple championships. Richmond’s dominance in Western/Southern Maine Class D is unrivaled.
To win a State Championship in Class D other teams had to go through Richmond for over 30 years. His teams won the most Girls State Championships (Class D) 11 (1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017), which is a State Record. Troy has been consistently recognized for his coaching excellence. In 1993 he was the Maine Soccer Coaches Western Maine Coach of the Year. In 2007 and 2012 he was the Maine Soccer Coaches Region 1 Small School Coach of the Year Nominee. In 2007 he was the Maine Soccer Coaches Region 1 Small School Coach of the Year.
His Career Record is 414 Wins, 110 Losses, and 59 Ties, The 414 Wins places him #1 in the State of Maine coaching a Girl’s Team. During his tenure at Richmond his team won 17 Western Maine Regional Championships (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017), was the #1 Seed in the Heal Points 17 times, and achieved 2 “Three-Peat Class D State Championships (1992 – 94 and 2010 – 12). His 61 playoff wins is a State Record. He has served as a Vice President for the Maine Soccer Coaches, representing Western/Southern Maine Girls, and received the prestigious Maine Soccer Coaches Service Award in 2024. In 2025 Troy was inducted into the first class of the Maine Soccer Hall of Fame.

Troy, a three year varsity starter, played goalkeeper for Richmond High School from 1978 – 1981. His senior year he posted six shutouts and a sparkling 1.25 goals-against average. In 1980 and 1982 he was selected to the Maine Soccer Coaches Western Maine Class C Regional All-Star Team.


After High School he attended Husson College and played for Dave Pelton, who was his high school coach at Richmond. He played 14 games as a freshman.
In addition to coaching, Kendrick has a passion for teaching and is still working as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher in the Richmond school system.
