“Shelby (Pickering) Bradford is a former multi-sport standout from Lee Academy who went on to have a highly decorated collegiate career at Husson University. She is the most prolific goal scorer in Maine high school soccer history and a member of the Lee Academy Hall of Fame.
At Lee Academy, Bradford was a four-sport athlete, competing in soccer, cross-country, basketball, and softball. She is best known for her time on the soccer field, where she scored an astounding 178 career goals, a total that makes her the all-time leading scorer in Maine schoolgirl soccer. Her single-season performances were equally impressive, with 57 goals in 2003 and 56 goals in 2004. During her high school career, she led her team to two Class D State Championships and was named as Maine’s All American and All Region in 2004. In addition, she was a Maine Soccer Coaches Eastern Maine State player in 2002, 2003 and 2004, as well as a Class D Regional All-Star in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. She is also the only player in Lee Academy history to have her jersey retired.
Shelby continued her athletic success at Husson University, where she was a three-year letter winner in soccer and basketball and a two-year member of the lacrosse team. On the soccer field, she set multiple program records, including becoming the school’s all-time career leader in goals (64), points (165), and shots (338). She helped lead the Eagles to three North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships and was named the NAC Player of the Year in 2006. She also earned several academic and athletic honors, including being a three-time member of the All-NAC and United Soccer Coaches All-New England Region teams. In recognition of her accomplishments, her number was retired, making her the only women’s soccer player in program history to receive this honor. She was inducted into the Husson University Hall of Fame in 2015.”
