“Michael Jeffrey was a varsity letter winner in soccer, basketball, and track at Timberlane Regional High School in Plaistow, N.H. In college, at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut he earned three varsity letters, and helped lead his team to a #12 ranking in the U.S. and #2 ranking in New England in Division III in 1972, and the ECAC Championship in 1973. After college he played semi-pro for the Hartford Ukrainians, and the New Britain Falcons, before moving to Maine and playing soccer for decades, from 1972 until 2015, primarily in Maine’s Summer Soccer Leagues. He served as a player/coach for the Athletic Attic and the Absolute Soccer Team, winning 12 League Championships. He coached various sports, including basketball, football, and track, but his primary focus was soccer. His first soccer coaching job was a Voluntary Assistant Coach for the University of Maine Men’s Soccer Team in 1974. He started the boys and girls soccer programs at Brewer High School in 1985 and coached the boys’ team there for over a decade, earning a Maine Soccer Coaches Eastern Maine Coach of the Year award in 1991. He also had remarkable success as an indoor track coach at Mount Desert Island, leading the team to three consecutive state championships, four consecutive Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championships, and was named the Maine Coaches Association Indoor Track Coach of the Year in 1982. In addition to coaching, he has held numerous administrative roles. He served as President of the Eastern Maine Indoor Track League and the Central Maine Men’s Soccer League. A key figure in the Maine soccer community, he has been the President of the Maine Soccer Coaches since 1989 and founded the Maine Soccer Coaches Annual Senior Bowl. The first one was played at Pendleton Field in Brewer, Maine. He organized and ran thirty-six Maine Soccer Coaches All-Star Banquets, and is presently working on the thirty-seventh. He also founded and maintains a comprehensive website that archives the history of soccer in Maine.”
