“Robert “Bob” Leib is a highly influential and decorated former coach and staff member at the University of Maine at Farmington, where he served for over 30 years. He graduated from West Chester University, where he was an All-American in soccer, with a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1967 and received his Master’s in Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968. He arrived at UMF in 1977 and held a variety of roles, including coaching multiple sports and serving as an athletic trainer. He coached both the men’s and women’s soccer teams simultaneously for six years. He finished his coaching career with more than 800 wins across four sports:
Men’s Soccer: 260-94-34; Women’s Soccer: 151-63-16; Softball: 271-145; Baseball: 134-129-1
He led the men’s soccer team to the NAIA National Tournament in 1986 and the women’s team to the same tournament in 2002. During his years at Farmington he coached 8 All Americans and was the Conference Coach of the Year numerous times. Dozens of his players were selected to the Conference All-Star Teams, along with the Maine Soccer Coaches Collegiate All-Star Teams. His impact on the university’s athletic program is permanently recognized by the “Bob Leib Soccer Field“, dedicated in his honor in 2015. He was also inducted into the UMF Hall of Fame in 2008. Beyond the university, he was active in the Farmington community, where he started and ran summer and fall soccer programs for many years. He resides in Wilton and is enjoying retirement.”
