In 1982, the Waterville High School Girls Soccer Team cemented its place in Maine sports history by delivering a flawless season during the formative years of girls’ high school soccer across the state. As the first public high school in Maine to offer a varsity girls’ soccer program, Waterville stood at the forefront of the sport’s rapid growth and set the standard for high school athletics in the region. Throughout their remarkable 1982 campaign, the team showcased dominance at both ends of the pitch. Their high-powered offensive unit regularly produced multi-goal victories, while a disciplined defense and formidable goalkeeping anchored the backline, pitching 10 shutouts over the course of the season. This relentless play carried Waterville to a perfect 17 – 0 – 0 record in 1982. Far from a single stand-out year, this undefeated season served as the catalyst for an extraordinary multi-year dynasty. Building on their momentum, the team followed up in 1983 with an 18 – 0 – 0 season, establishing a state record for the longest unbeaten streak in Maine girls’ high school soccer history.
